Rental car prices have increased, but have you increased your insurance coverage?

Over the past year prices have continued to increase for just about everything. Rental car companies such as Enterprise & Hertz have also had to adjust prices to keep up with inflation. Insurance companies offer rental reimbursement, sometimes called transportation expense, coverage which provides a rental car when an accident occurs and the vehicle is inoperable or being repaired. The lowest amount of rental coverage offered by insurance companies is usually $30 per day up to $900 total. We are now seeing the cheapest rental car at $32 per day when rented through an insurance carrier. Most insurance companies receive discounts that individual vehicle renters do not receive. The cheapest rental car an individual can get usually starts at about $60+ a day. This may cause some to have to pay out of pocket for part of their rental vehicle.

Make sure to check your coverage. If your coverage is $30/$900 under rental reimbursement/transportation expense make sure you increase to it to at least $40/$1200, meaning $40 per day up to a total of $1,200 (or 30 days). If you drive a truck or large SUV it will cost more to rent a similar vehicle. Therefore, you'll need to work with your agent to find the appropriate amount of coverage for your truck/large SUV.
