Tennessee Ranks 5th: Uninsured Drivers

Why Carry Insurance?

Insurance can sometimes be expensive, but it can be even more costly to drive uninsured. If you are driving without insurance and cause an accident you are solely responsible for all damages/injuries caused. Costs associated with auto accidents can add up very quickly if there are injuries. Even if their are no injuries most people can not afford to pay thousands of dollars to fix or replace the other parties’ vehicle. That’s why you need insurance. Not only is it smart to carry insurance it’s also the law. Most states allow officers to tow your vehicle if insurance is not carried and the courts can go as far as taking your license if repeatedly cited. Accidents do happen, but unfortunately when they occur someone is going to pay for them. Purchase insurance so you are not that someone.

Why Carry Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UMC)?

This coverage protects you, your passengers, and your vehicle from motorists that are not carrying any insurance. It also protects from those who have insurance, but are not carrying high enough limits to cover damages/injuries. There are two parts to the this coverage. The bodily injury portion which covers medical costs as well as property damage which covers your vehicle.
